Michael Matthias was born in North Wilmington and grew up in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Trinity High School in 1985. He received an Associate in Arts in Chemistry in 1987 from Harrisburg Area Community College and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Delaware in 1989. In 1993, he graduated from Temple Dental School and received a Doctor of Medical Dentistry. In 1994, he completed an A.E.G.D. residency at Temple. The A.E.G.D. postdoctoral program stands for Advanced Education in General Dentistry.

After moving to West Chester and working as a dental associate for about 15 months, he opened his own dental practice in 1995.

In August 2001, Dr. Matthias was recognized at the national meeting for Academy of General Dentistry in New York City. He earned the distinction of the Fellowship Award, which required 500 hours of continuing education and successful completion of a six- hour comprehensive dental exam in all aspects of Dentistry. He is actively pursuing the Mastership Award, which requires 600 more hours of continuing education.

In 2003, he opened his second location of Your Dentistry Today in Greenville, Delaware in Powder Mill Square.
